Ok I have planned for 4 "Not hot" peppers this year (1 is in question): Habanada, Nadapeño, Sweet Cayenne and (the one seedling that is struggling) Sweet Bonnet.

Is 26 varieties of peppers (with no hot ones) too many for one backyard gardener? Asking for a friend that is absolutely me. 🤣

(Nadapeño that are actually hot) peppers grown from seed

I find this wild considering there's already a variety called "nadapeño" that's not as hot as regular jalapeños. Offer both but don't dilute the OG.

(Note to self: save my own seeds)

And my digestive system can’t deal any more. I am growing Nadapeños, and Habanada’s

I finally realized that we're heat wimps generally so I should go for things more in wax pepper/shishito/nadapeno but I still haven't gotten bigger peppers to work and I really want the mild Hatch seed (Joe Parker) to work here. I'm stubbornly going to try again next year.

My favorite is the nadapeño, a not-hot pepper with all the other attributes of a jalapeño. 😂
December 31, 2024 at 6:29 PM
It’s called a “Nadapeño” and it isn’t GMO, it’s selectively bred, which isn’t the same thing. There are also “Habanadas” I’m pretty sure.
July 31, 2025 at 3:40 AM
I have narrowed down my tomatoes to like my fave 4/5 varieties. Now onto experimentation with peppers LOL (all sweets and not hot varieties of hot peppers "Sweet Cayenne, Sweet Bonnett, Nadapeno & Habanadas"!
March 16, 2026 at 8:10 PM
I've grown the Habanada variety a couple times, and though they take quite a long time to produce, once they do, they're pretty great. The Nadapeno is also amazing.

There’s also non-hot versions of some hot peppers if that’s interesting to you. Like Nadapeno or Habanada, however habanada takes SO long that I’m finally cutting it from my list. Not worth it; only got about one ripened in 2024.

Peppers hate me. Never been able to get decent bell peppers. Tried again last year. Pffffttt ... dinky. Grew some jalapenos and they were ok sized. With all the hope and encouragement in this thread, I am going to try again ... Santa Fe Grande pepper, Nadapeno or Tam Mild Jalapeno.

Ooh that's a good idea, saving seeds. But also NADAPEÑO IS HILARIOUS 😭
