Nuclear weapons are inhumane, indiscriminate, and illegal under the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of #NuclearWeapons. They risk ending civilization, draining $100B/year from human needs, and accidents are inevitable.

Abolish them, before history repeats. #Nagasaki80

The Nagasaki atomic bombing anniversary event was so powerful. Much preferred it to the Hiroshima one. The song クスノキ, sung by school children, reduced me to tears.

80 years ago- in a flash, the US unleashed death, mayhem, and injury on hundreds of thousands of lives.

The time to end nukes is now - at #Hiroshima80 and #Nagasaki80 - so we don't have to fear for even a year longer these unfathomable destroyers of worlds.
The message from those who’ve lived nuclear weapons is clear: Time to end these inhumane weapons of mass destruction. The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is the only international treaty that outlaws nuclear weapons and all nuclear armed states must join. #NuclearBan

Today while out running errands, I saw this car with multiple stickers. One said "WWII I served," and one said "Korea I served." There were also Army, Navy, and Retired stickers. I left a thank you note for this family.

80 years after Nagasaki, we recall Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC, who witnessed the blast from afar. He felt both relief at war’s end and deep moral unease, recognising nuclear power’s peril.

80 years ago, US nuclear bombs killed more than 38,000 children in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We are now in times when the last living witnesses are at the end of their lives.

#Hiroshima80 #Nagasaki80

At 11.02 a.m. on August 9, 1945, the sky above Nagasaki was filled by a white flash and all the clocks stopped. A gigantic mushroom-shaped cloud soared up towards the blue sky and left a devastated city behind. #Nagasaki80 #NuclearBan
