Always an incredible opportunity to catch Angolan giraffe in the Namib Desert. Deploying tail tags on these animals allows for us to better understand the ecology of how they navigate this challenging environment 🏜️

Oh, 100% but they never break character and their humor is dry as the Namib but when they get a fish on the hook in the comments their troll game is god tier. I've watched that account get a nutbar into such a froth I feared a stroke was imminent.

Namibia to host international Autism congress
Staff Reporter Namibia will host an international autism congress this week, bringing together researchers, health professionals, educators and advocates to discuss ways of improving support for people on the autism spectrum. The sixth World Autism Organisation (WAO) Congress will take place in Windhoek from 3 to 5 November, with organisers saying the gathering comes at a time when the country’s autistic community remains underserved. Petra Dillmann, founder of the Autism Association of Namibia, said the country needed to create more opportunities for autistic people to speak for themselves and influence conversations about their needs. Dillmann, who has been involved in autism awareness in Namibia for more than 30 years, said it was time to give younger generations a greater role in advocacy. “Now the time has come to empower the younger generation. We must give the autistic community a platform to advocate and speak for themselves,” she said. She said the congress would allow participants to hear directly from autistic people about their experiences and how they can be better supported. The event is expected to bring together parents, teachers, health professionals, academics, employers, government representatives and autistic people. Discussions will cover early intervention, education, employment, human rights, daily living support, advocacy, ageing and sensory processing. The programme will also provide professional development opportunities for psychologists, therapists, medical practitioners, teachers and researchers through exposure to international research and practices in autism support. The congress will be held at the Mövenpick, Windhoek International Conference Centre, with virtual participation also available to those unable to attend in person. Dillmann said the gathering presented an opportunity to strengthen understanding of autism and give the autistic community a more active role in shaping the support available to them. The World Autism Organisation Congress will run for three days, from 3 to 5 November 2026.

PRESIDENT URGES ACTION ON NAMIB DECLARATION AND WATER INVESTMENT - nbc
Drought and other climate-related challenges continue to leave countries such as Namibia vulnerable. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for the implementation of the Namib Declaration, adopted during the Eleventh Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP11) in 2013, alongside increased investment to close Africa's water infrastructure gap and strengthen resilience to climate change. Speaking during the first plenary session of the Russia-Africa summit, Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah called for stronger cooperation with Russia in agricultural development through modern technologies, innovation, and improved market access to enhance food security and contribute to African economies. The head of state noted that Russia and Africa should strengthen collaboration to address climate change, expand trade, and reform global governance, stressing that partnerships must deliver tangible benefits to ordinary people. "It must be underscored that agriculture remains a mainstay of many African economies and an important component and contributor to the national GDP, food security, employment, and rural livelihood. And this is one sector."  On trade, the president noted that Russia-Africa trade reached US$27 billion in 2025, expressing Namibia's desire to see the figure increase in ways that benefit both sides. Addressing international peace and security, Nandi-Ndaitwah said the global environment is increasingly challenging, pointing out the importance of collective efforts to preserve an international order that is more representative and equitable. She expressed Namibia's appreciation for Russia's support, particularly the African common position on the reform of the United Nations Security Council, further calling for the reform of the international financial architecture. "It is imperative that we reaffirm our collective commitment to forging a partnership that fosters a peaceful, secure, and prosperous world, an inclusive international system that gives all nations a meaningful voice in the global decision-making and ensures that international governance structures reflect today's geopolitical and economic realities, a system that recognises peaceful coexistence among nations and people's right to self-determination, peace, security, and sustainable development are one." Namibia, she further said, will continue working with Russia and other African nations to strengthen multilateralism, promote the peaceful resolution of disputes, respect national sovereignty, and ensure that development opportunities are shared inclusively. On trade matters, Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that Russia-Africa trade reached US$27 billion in 2025, saying Namibia wants to see trade grow through joint ventures, skills transfer, and partnerships that create jobs and improve livelihoods.
