New Delhi, Aug 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Centre on Thursday allowed imports of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar at nil duty to bring down surging prices in the domestic market, which are adding to the inflationary pressure in the economy. According to an official notification issued, the imports will be permitted till October 31, 2026. A customs duty of 100 per cent was being levied on raw sugar imports. Data compiled by NCDEX showed that spot sugar prices in major markets across India touched a 16-year high of Rs 5,530 per quintal.
