#neoceratopsian
It's such a weird vibe seeing a big name paleoartist post something that makes you think "Hold on, isn't that one of mine?"

If you hear tapping outside your window that’s just me with tonights dinosaur
fact.

Beg.

No, silly.

I’m not asking you to beg for it. Thats the dinosaurs name. Beg tse.

Beg is a neoceratopsian and lived in the Early Cretaceous period.

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Beg tse

From Early Cretaceous Ulaanoosh Formation, Mongolia, this most basal neoceratopsian isn't asking ya'll to plead with Mr. Tse, but rather is named after a Himalayan Deity. It shows transitional features between basal ceratopsians and neoceratopsians

Great to spend time with the basal neoceratopsian, Beg Tse, while visiting IP in Ulaanbaatar last week.

So, I didn't discover the fossil, but did help research and name it as part of a scientific team! It was a fun project, and some great science - you can read more about it elsewhere, and the original paper is open access: journals.plos.org/plosone/arti... (3/n)

I also think it’s fitting that a neoceratopsian was named this, because a lot of people mistake herbivore dinosaurs, ceratopsians in particular, as gentle, but they were likely pretty aggressive.

'The newly-discovered dinosaur roamed our planet during the Albian age of the Early Cretaceous epoch, between 113 and 100 million years ago.

Dubbed Sasayamagnomus saegusai, the animal measured about 0.8 m (2.6 feet) in length and weighed around 10 kg."

Today, for the first time in seven semesters, I was given a #dinosaur I had never heard of, Sasayamagnomus, a neoceratopsian that was described just two months ago.
Imagine being just revealed & already being someone's favourite.
Kudos to my student for getting a brand new dinosaur as his favourite!
I always encourage my students to get themselves a favourite dinosaur & share about it during the last class.

Today was the first class in 5 semesters that

a) didn’t have any T. rex,
b) thanked me for exposing them to dinosaurs.

I’ll take that.

This little lady made her debut in Jurassic World: Rebirth, where she met the Delgado family. In the end, she would be brought off the island with the family.

Aquilops means "Eagle face" and is known as the earliestunequivocal very basal neoceratopsian found in America
