George Washington came to Newark and built the largest ranch in the county. Not that George Washington. Patterson came west in 1849 for gold, failed, and by 1895 farmed 3,000 acres here, named after Shakespeare. Ardenwood Historic Farm, Fremont: 205 acres, still there. #NewarkCA #EastBay

Bill Walsh coached at Washington High in the late 1950s. Elaine Welteroth and Thuy both graduated Newark Memorial.

Newark had a working port before it had a name. Around 1853, warehouses went up at Mayhews Landing and it's happening again right now with T&T Supermarket's new NewPark Mall store.
