Paying homage to the crinoline, Dior’s 1954 collections included this emerald taffeta, a flourish of big skirt and form fitting bodice for Saturday shenanigans #NewfieldsToday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Girolamo Giuseffi decided to throw it all at this gown. It needed cut velvet panels, lace, chiffon overlays, net, rhinestones and silk covered baubles. He also decided that electric blue & cream would make the most vivid impression & he wasn’t wrong. Gown c1912 #newfieldstoday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

On what would have been Pierre Balmain’s birthday, a bouquet of a dress. The embroidery crowds the sculpted strapless bodice but peters out as the skirt descends. Mid #1950s and lovely #NewfieldsToday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Twilight in a dress, the inkiest of velvets that reveals a lighter blue silk lining and broad silk sash to break up the complex folds of cloth. It is one of Dior’s earliest collections, 1948 #NewfieldsToday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

A closer examination of the strapless bodice of Balmain’s 1953 ballgown creates the impression of a decorative ceramic, moulded in white with a fruit of floral embellishments trailing towards the hem #newfieldstoday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

This is a favourite, some #1920s Callot Soeurs constructed along mermaid lines, with a dramatic blue velvet tail and silver embellishments #NewfieldsToday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

This looks as if it were a fun wedding dress worn by Arline Nelson in 1935. The dress itself is all kinds of crinkled velvet loveliness but that little matching cap! #NewfieldsToday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

There was no need for the dressmaker to worry about decorative additions to this early #1860s gown. Emerging dye and print technologies gave this wool challis all of the drama the dress needed #NewfieldsToday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

It is unusual to observe a garment from an aerial view but the expanse of this late 1880s Worth Russian court gown requires a broader view. The emerald velvet train & bodice have been heavily embellished with crystals, sequins & foil for a truly encrusted ensemble #newfieldstoday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

From the side it almost appears as if a mermaid is emerging from her glistening tail to take human form and step ashore to wreak havoc and heartbreak. In reality it is a mid #1920s blue velvet gown by Callot Soeurs with a wonderfully expansive train #newfieldstoday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
