Ah, good shout, I could not remember if it was tooling we kept or got rid of. Also the whole thing is that Boeing is gonna convert their St. Louis line that currently does Super Hornets to NGAD, and LockMart does not have any slack in their capacity to suddenly start up a new line anywhere

i think we destroyed all our F-22 tooling? it would absolutely cost more to try to redesign a plane that has been out of production for probably 20 years by the time of the decision than just continue with the clean-sheet design, plus I think DAF would kill itself rather than let NGAD die
