Surprise, more Kem Kem theropods! Here's a small indeterminate noasaurid, between 2-3m long, known from fragmentary remains. With smaller animals, I am drawn to vivid colours and flashier displays - like the speculative skin flap on the tail. Size comparison below ⬇️

Next up is Deltadromeus agilis, definitely an interesting taxon to try to reconstruct! We went down the carnivorous noasaurid route in the end. This colour scheme was partially inspired by the Tigrisoma heron species, particularly the Fasciated Tiger-Heron.

After four months and 36 illustrations, I present the final Kem Kem chart – a look at of one of the most incredible ecosystems the world has ever seen.

Here’s tonight dinosaur fact.

Masiakasaurus. It was a Noasaurid theropod that lived in what is now Madagascar.

It’s name means “vicious lizard”.

Now I bet you’re thinking with a name like that it must have been a large dinosaur.

Right?

Wrong.

See, these were just little fellas.

Convergent evolution among non‐carnivorous, desert‐dwelling theropods as revealed by the dentary of the noasaurid Berthasaura leopoldinae (Cretaceous of Brazil)
The Cretaceous witnessed the establishment of many desertic landscapes across the globe, including the Early Cretaceous Caiuá palaeodesert, in south-central Brazil, and those of several Late Cretaceo...

Haven't given up on #ArtBoost, just overwhelmed. Today's is for Miguelangelo Tornero (can't find him on BSky) who's producing very nice #palaeoart, often of a Gondwanan flavour. Is also currently producing #WalkingWithDinosaurs and #JurassicWorldRebirth    fanart, and it looks great.

Meep! Meep! concept sketch of a group of Berthasaura

Berthasaura leopoldinae was a small noasaurid (a group of abelisaurians) that lived during the Late Cretaceous in South America. In the background you can see a group of Caiuajara (a tapejarid pterosaur) flying around

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Berthasaura leopoldinae

From Early Cretaceous Goio-Erê Formation, Brazil, the 1 meter "Bertha lizard" is a noasaurid ceratosaur sporting features convergent with oviraptors. It's thought they had teeth as juveniles that were lost and replaced with a beak in adults

It is hard to get a size for a lot of these fragmentary pterosaurs - I've gone for a tentative 4-5ish metre wingspan here.

The running pose was very much a tribute to one of Todd Marshall's many incredible crocodylomorph depictions from the early 2010s. Thanks again to Armin Reindl for croc-advice!

This is one of the tiniest of our animals so far, I think only beat out by Leptostomia. Big thanks to @arminreindl.bsky.social for help with some anatomy details!

Not quite the 12m wingspan giant from 1999, we now think Ornithocheirus has a much more reasonable, but still impressive, 4-5m wingspan. Also - I've rearranged a few animals in the size chart for a better flow!

This is the smallest dinosaur here! I'm certain there must have been birds around, but as far as I can tell, no fossils have been found, or at least, none have been clearly identified.
