This is a good pro tip and something I've also become extremely mindful of here in late middle age (I have nonslip tape on basement stairs and treads on back stairs). I've known too many people who've either died or been severely injured this way. We forget that most people die at home!
Nope, that's accurate. I started making myself reach for the handrails when I turned 40 so it would be muscle memory when I got older, and it's already saved my ass a couple of times when I've slipped on the stairs.
@scalzi.com - for reasons I can't explain, my brain remembers you urging people to use handrails, because stairs are a technology actively trying to kill you. If I've misremembered this, sorry.

No way this place passed inspection with so few guard rails. You're telling me we don't need nonslip shoes in this very wet lab? Who put all the electrical equipment next to giant tanks of water? I wouldn't need to climb around this warehouse if there was a goddamn high stacker.
