The nonfiction I've read in the past six months. All are research, of sorts, for two future novels. (I've drafted one and haven't started the other.)

The Underworld by Susan Casey

The Brilliant Abyss by Helen Scales

Daughter of the Dragon by Yunte Huang

On Gold Mountain by Lisa See

The Boys of Summer by Roger Kahn. An absolute classic from the height of baseball's popularity. Deals with the Brooklyn Dodgers, where Jackie Robinson was the first to break the color barrier in baseball.

Nonficton coming up...

The books I will be reading every day until I finish starting tomorrow will be MADNESS: RACE & INSANITY IN A JIM CROW ASYLUM by Antonia Hylton & DISASTER ANARCHY from @plutopress.bsky.social. As a creative writer, my habits of reading fiction, poetry are tied to my craft, I read nonficton for study.
I'm going into nonfiction heavy reading phase. When I want to read nonfiction, I block that time off on my schedule that every day I'm going to be incrimentally getting through the book according to a a metric I set, which could be number of pages read, chapter read, or time of reading session.

That's an interesting nonficton topic! I love how nonficton can be about the most niche topics.

I either bought this in a daze and completely forgot, or an anonymous gifter sent it to me.

Either way, I'm hella excited to dive into it soon!

that's really the way I can tell that these people have absolutely no fucking real world experience and are pulling from fiction and fantasy tropes, movies, books etc. real life is never anything like online. it's never like what fiction is. it's never even like most nonficton written with a bias

I started watching Under the Banner of Heaven last night.

It's a book I read a couple years ago so I'm always fascinated to see how they adapt nonficton books I've read.

So far there are a lot more famous people than a was expecting!

I started reading Under the Banner of Heaven yesterday and I'm hoping that switching to nonficton helps ease my reading slump 💙📚

So far it is working 👍 but also eeeekk. Why are people so gross and horrible?

That's what niche nonficton and analysis is for! For having those discussions! Otherwise you just get snide popcult self-aware (derogatory) fictional prose that acts like its metacommentary when it is literally the furthest from it.

On May 29, 1914 the Empress of Ireland was hit by a Norwegian collier in heavy fog in the St. Lawrence River. She sank in just 14 minutes. More passenger lives were lost on the Empress (836) than the Titanic (832) New book: evelazarus.com/book/beneath... #shipwreck

4) All of them, especially in used bookstores. (I could spend days browsing.) But I mainly buy from fantasy, lgbtqia+ (if they have a separate section), poetry, nonficton, and manga.

And am I being pedantic? Fuck yeah I am. But if you're going to write/edit nonficton you sure as shit define your terms and use your words carefully.

ESP nonfiction where we don't have a ton of sources.

Moving on.
