I often say the sunsets in PugetSound are more dramatic than in Vancouver

Theory: PugetSound - #clouds stack up on the NorthCascades then collect/reflect all the #GoldernHour light. Vanc - no mt range to catch the clouds, just MtStHelens & MtHood

… but tonight #MotherNature gave us this 🩷 #sunset!

Golden larches above Blue Lake in the North Cascades. 🍂

I liked how the autumn color, reflection, and rocky peaks created three distinct layers in this view.

What catches your eye first, the larches or the reflection?

Yesterday was the last sunny day on this side of October... Today, temperature dropped 20 degrees and snowstorm is looming. #pnw #northcascades #nature

Had an amazing day out in the North Cascades (Maple Pass) yesterday. Larches and fire weed were in full autumn color! #pnw #hiking #fallcolors #washington #northcascades #larches

Ross Dam, Ross Lake, Skagit River, flooded territory, downstream effects, fish, a new deal, an evolving watershed and Seattle electrical power. The concrete dams remain while the world around them remains, dynamic.
Three hydroelectric dams on the Skagit River in Washington state have long blocked salmon from migrating north into British Columbia.

Now, fish passage around the dams may be restored, and First Nations are preparing for the potential return of salmon to their territories.

We spent the weekend enjoying the colors of the North Cascades. The larches were stunning!

For #TreeTuesday: A few trees on a ridge in the harsh environs of the Mount Baker Wilderness of Washington State, USA. Note the man and his young son in the bottom left, for scale. The background are the lower slopes of Mount Baker.

Chasing light through the mist on Sauk Mountain. The switchbacks here never disappoint, even if never ending, especially when the clouds start rolling through the valley. 🌲☁️

The #NorthCascadesHighway has tons of pull offs and it seems like each one of them has a stunning view of the #NorthCascades, a #waterfall, or both. I can't help but fall in love with #washington and this #nationalpark, everytime we come.

And, it's only an hour and a half from Seattle!!

For #TreeTuesday: a photo I made a few years ago about this time of year. A view from a trail in the Mount Baker Wilderness in Washington State, USA. The slopes of Mount Baker (Komo Kulshan) are in the background.

Another critter I photographed at North Cascades National Park: Clark's Nutcracker. Though monotone in color, I still find this bird striking.

A really big sky.

A really wild North Cascades landscape.

A really big Ross Dam.

Happy Autumn Equinox! 💛It’s that magical time of year when the larches put on a brilliant golden show before shedding their needles for winter 💛 #hiking #PNW #northcascades

At North Cascades National Park, I encountered the roundest dang Cascade Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel that I've ever seen. Look at this magnificent creature!

Ptarmigan Ridge Trail, seen here in the distance, is one of my all time favorite hikes. Looking forward to getting back up there in a few weeks when the fall colors make the landscape look almost surreal.
