The Supreme Court of Canada precedents on effective voting rights seem pretty clear to me here (and for a bonus, those rights are not subject to the notwithstanding clause.)
We've got a write-up about the completely unprecedented nature of the proposed changes here, by @zoemas0n.bsky.social

It’s noteworthy that Georgia and Florida both elected their first black governors.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announces he has arrested convicted felons who have voted illegally in Texas. But not himself, notwithstanding two felony indictments and clear evidence that he registered at a home at which he did not in fact reside.

Yes, the AK investigation is bad. But also, the District Court there already threw out the first lawsuit.

A friendly reminder that gerrymandering laws violate democratic rights under the Charter, which are NOT subject to the notwithstanding clause. The UCP has no get out of jail free card for this issue. This is just one more reason we don’t want judges beholden to “Alberta values” (whatever that means)
It is nothing short of American-style gerrymandering, and if Canadian courts want to protect democracy in this country, this is a red line.
