any end to the U.S. war on Iran is going to look unfair, *because the United States is a far more powerful country that has the ability to inflict horrendous destruction on Iran*. Establishing some form of demonstrated deterrence via the Strait is a win, in relative terms.

Indeed, assuming this represents current policy, it is an open admission that the regime change effort has failed, de-nuclearization is likewise impossible or impractical and the only objective that remains is to extricate from a costly failure.
If this is actually the new set of strategic goals, the Trump administration is admitting that they have strategically failed and this has been a disaster.
