i love my headphones and my private listening, but i will always advocate for going to concerts in person. those sound waves hit you different in a hall. genuinely sexual and religious and numinous and extracorporeal experience. next best thing to making the music yourself, if you cant

This weekend feels like autumn. Can you feel it? Also the pull of the invisible, the numinous, ancient feels strong. Honor your allies.

I think to a certain extent I can understand lots of religious stuff but when people talk like that I feel there is some kind of numinous human experience I don't have access to

I took the motto of St Catherine's College, Oxford, with me to Cambridge, revisiting my student days. ‘Nova et Vetera’: 'new things & old things’

King's College was blessed by Autumn sunshine, left.

Right, this photo was taken 40 years ago, the chapel looking numinous @churchartnature.bsky.social

"Between the trails of our Black Prairies and our African legacies, there is history, there are cowboys, and because there is love, there is always a tomorrow."

Happy pub day to Numinous Animal: Tracing the Afrofuturism of Black Cowboys by Bertrand Bickersteth!

All of this! We have brains that search for and experience the numinous, and that has historically been co-opted by religion. But it doesn't belong to religion, it belongs to us.

"i'm not gonna have a numinous experience" who asked you to? you were supposed to observe the functions of the machines and understand that a bit of conductive metal is not creating the same material work/effect.

to truly appreciate Encounter at Farpoint you need to have been a Trek-obsessed seven year old in 1987. then you might get a whiff of that numinous awe we felt way back when.

"hard dissociation is a path to the numinous" yeah man sounds good

This is obviously meaningful for you and that's why you believe what you believe what you do, but I'm not you. Also at this point it is just proselytizing, and I'm going to ask you to stop. I'm not going to have your numinous experience. Pushing it further at his point is just harassment.

Numinous is such a good word AND I would love to read scenes about or including the numinous 😍

I love the word "coruscating." The word "gorgeous" particularly when used for men, as that's doubly rare.

The word "Incidentally" as it's a verbal tic developed to cope with my ADHD-fueled segues.

And "numinous" because I *never* see it and I want to piss off people who think it's misspelled.
I want to flip this on its head and say a word I wish I saw more in writing:
Indefatigable
what’s a word authors use that you hate for absolutely no reason?

if you use the phrase ‘make love’ there is a 99.9% chance i will dnf on the spot.

I visit neglected churches and abbeys often not out of holiness, but a desire to walk behind phantom monks, spectral nuns. If I feel closer to the numinous for treading in haunted footsteps, it is largely accidental. – #CLNolan
