#nushell
another reason I wish these fucking tools supported nushell first class because nushell supports arithmetic like a normal programming language

PowerShell is great. I'm no power user, but after decades toying around with Bash, Perl, Cygwin, and cmd.exe, it works well enough for me.

Any suggestions for a better terminal and scripting setup on Win11? Looking into Git Bash (probably closest to my needs), Nushell, or an Alacritty+Python combo.

The refrain, "we promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for," from Pioneers on Silent Alarm is basically post thatcher politics in a nushell.

They deserve all the flowers possible just for that lyric.

you could try nushell but i think you'll have to add a plugin for it, it's not similar to jq queries but at least its consistent for querying

Quick hack to pipe results from nushell to a duckdb table for further querying.

Slowly catching up on the last few years of CLI tools: fzf, zoxide, bat, btop, zellij, nushell, ghostty &c. Wish I'd had these years ago, so fast and useful. LLMs do a lot these days, but simple stuff is faster done alone with powerful and simple tools.

(Stuff like nushell is already along these lines, but I'm thinking about how for the new software I create I now have this new framing of how the subcommand interface ought to work.)

gonna defer to @ptr.pet who keeps telling me its gonna give the agents nushell

Measured, not asserted: routing agent tasks through a structured shell improved accuracy on some task families, added latency and output tokens, and made no difference on a real aggregate case. The held-out set refuted my extrapolation.
Nushell in three spoonfuls: when does a structured shell actually help an agent?
I tested whether selectively routing coding-agent tasks through Nushell helps: it improved accuracy on some tasks, increased latency and output tokens, and made no accuracy difference in a real aggregate case.
