Re-introductions! G'day! I'm an Aussie evolutionary biologist/3D imaging specialist. I work at UT Austin's high-res CT facility (AKA UTCT). In the past I worked on #oVertTCN & NoCTURNetwork. I can/will CT scan just about anything (but I love lizards the most) & specialize in contrast-enhanced CT

Check out the fat reserves in this ruby throated hummingbird! #oVertTCN #diceCT scan revealed large pockets of fat storage all along this teeny body. Fueled by nectar, these birds can double their body fat before migrating, & then lose most of it migrating 100s of miles.

I'm SO proud to announce - THE #oVertTCN PAPER IS OUT! We wanted to scan all the vertebrates & wow did we give it a red hot crack!

No winners in this battle of snake v lizard. A true case of "eyes bigger than stomach", this eastern racer couldn't swallow its lizard lunch. Bonus: stomach contents for the lizard - tasty bugs!

One of my favorite CT scans I helped make for #oVertTCN: a 5-day-old loggerhead shrike ate a tiny lizard! 🪶🧪🦎

How can we tell it's a lizard? Tail vertebrae in reptiles have chevrons for muscle attachment. Mammal tail bones don't have those.

Hey it's international bat appreciation day 🦇 Here's a rendering of a skeleton of a Daubenton's free tailed bat I scanned for #oVertTCN. This AMNH specimen was collected in the Congo in 1910! This poor girl has quite a few broken bones 😢 See if you can spot them

Lizards are my fave! I did my PhD on Aussie dragon lizards, so they were my very first tomography subjects before I went on to CT all the things! I #diceCT scanned all of these lovely lizard friends for #oVertTCN, & you can get the data for free on MorphoSource: www.morphosource.org/projects/000...
