The house was pulled down in the early 1900s, and the land was converted into a public park, but for some reason, this wall was retained, and is still standing to this day.

Ghost walls are ones which are all that remain of old structure that are otherwise long-gone. In this case, it's a boundary wall for the ornamental garden of Crosspark, a late Georgian mansion built in the 1830s, which once stood on this site.
