More #Duviri themed patternwork, this time with bleach painting & overdye. Didn't put down a grid first because I am a fool.
Not sure what I'm doing with this. Maybe an applique on a jacket or something? Hoodie? Another panel replacement on my coat?

1/ #ThriftFinds Timeline cleanse. The blue overdye on the 13 table runners (made from multicolored fabric yoyos) worked better than I expected. An old costuming trick: dark colored overdye tame wacky colorways.
Here they almost look like a landscape.
I can use these yoyos in so many things.

I have been told by the new costume director not to attempt to overdye the fabric because I lack the necessary materials and equipment to dye a mixed fiber material (50/50 cotton linen).

Nothing like getting director approval to finally put in an order for 5 yards of fabric only to have them go:
"Actually we were hoping for a warmer brown. But you can dye it after the fact."

OMG - it's GORGEOUS! Why would you frog it? Find a local indie dyer and have them overdye it if the color's the problem.

Mossy Frog DK. For this complex colourway I first fix speckles in three different shades of green and then overdye with foliage green to create a leafy camouflage mix that mimics the colours that allow these frogs to chill in a leaf without being seen by predators. #yarn #mothyandthesquid #frog

Dyeing results from yesterday! I really like how the yarn turned out, the silk is a really pretty rose gold pink and the wool is a red- fuschia. I'm going to overdye half of it with osage to see what I get.

(Faded black bunched up and overdyed black makes some gorgeous layered effects as well.)

Going crazy trying to find this coat color in a twill fabric. Everything I find is misleading online and ends up being wrong IRL (left fabric). 😤
I might just have to use the duck cloth (center, showing brighter than IRL) I used for Francis. Would like to overdye it a tad, but this weave is a PITA.

i don't know about mixing dyes together, i think a much more common thing to do was dye with one pigment then overdye that with another!

Yesterday I started working through a pile of things that needed an overdye to find new life. These textiles are permanently stained or otherwise could use more dimension to make them interesting for garments. One of my favs for this is vintage cotton hobnail bedspreads - so much texture.

I mordant first with (potassium) alum before turmeric (indigo doesn't need mordant), I always do other colors first then overdye with indigo

Progress on my reed screen
The indigo and madder (lac overdye) turned out even better than I anticipated.
I do wish I went with a narrower plain reed strip on the edges. There will be a binding strip sewed over it, but it's wider than I pictured in my head.
