Here's a short moment captured at the entrance to Oweynagat, Uaimh na gCat (Cave of the Cats) in the ancient landscape of Rathcroghan, Roscommon.
There are many tales about the dark depths of the cave, once described as the 'Gateway to Hell' in the Book of Leinster.

Ooh, if only I weren't so claustrophobic, I would love to visit this gate to the Otherworld, associated with The Morrigan and Queen Medb. I still might try. cavesofireland.com/home/caves/o...

As @blindboyboatclub.bsky.social told @dianearodgers.bsky.social about dangers of fairy forts & stones, I'm now remembering the number of these we fucked with in Ireland last year. From descending to Tír na nÓg at Oweynagat to touching the Catstone at Uisneach, we set ourselves up for an enchantment

Oweynagat has acquired a title screen.
This probably means it is too late to turn back. 🖤
The cave is asking what brings you to the mouth:
SEEK · BARGAIN · UNBIND
What would you choose? 🖤❤️

After nearly two weeks in Ireland, I finally saw a rainbow after climbing out of Oweynagat aka Cave of the Cats. I feel like The Morrígan was smiling down on our little group.

Near one of the ancient royal centres of Ireland, you can find an old hawthorn tree. Underneath that tree yawns the black mouth of a cave.
This is Uaimh na gCat, the Cave of the Cats. Associated with Samhain and the Otherworld.

I have always been intrigued by legends like Bricriu's Feast, where one of Cú Chulainn's heroic feats was taming supernatural cats that emerged from Oweynagat Cave in Co. Roscommon (the Cave of the Cats).
Could these cats be an echo of cultural memory of wildcats or lynx?
