Paleohistology (WHY TEETH EXIST) with Dr. Yara Haridy — alie ward
Excuse me, why do you have teeth? How did they get in your mouth and where did they come from? Let’s ask researcher, tooth enthusiast, and Paleohistologist Dr. Yara Haridy.  She opened up the arc...

Readers! What is the last book you loved by a trans author? And what is something you loved about it?

An older piece from last year, but I love it all the same. The Triassic Cuddle is such a sweet piece of paleohistory 💚

Paleohistory of prairie to now

Interesting: PN was originally Bob Smith of WI DNR’s personal garden. Saw cool plants at work, put them in his vegetable garden in the 1960s. By 1972, people started asking to buy his plants, becoming Prairie Nursery.

Watching Paul McCartney playing Buddy Holly songs in footage from the 70s thinking aw how sweet, he was respecting the paleohistory of popular music but then omg the equivalent now would be Ed Sheeran doing an acoustic cover of New York City Cops or summat

C'est adapté de son article J. Mc Tiernan, "An essay on comparative equine paleohistory: the case of the turning radius and ABS in Arabian and Varangian horses", International journal of historic hippology, n°124, 1999, p. 18-32, qui lui mentionne bien Jeanne d'Arc.

Humans: A Monstrous History by Surekha Davies, Indigenous Paleohistory of the Western Hemisphere by Paulette Steves are two I can personally recommend. I have a lot of references for the Eurasian Steppes pre-Mongol but none of them are audiobooks, unfortunately.

There's a comical intersection between people that draw red dead and people obsessed with paleohistory

That's a question for someone more deeply educated on paleosociology/paleohistory than I am but I'd imagine it's linked to defending territory with the growth of agriculture + cities/city-states. Once there's something To Defend, violence would have to change form.

and you look at primatology and shit?

homie 95% of human history is just "primitive communism" otherwise known as "the entire paleohistory of human as animal until it abstracted 1 dunbar so far it needed to figure out what 2 of them could even be" and we are currently at like 55 MILLION DUNBAR

My hobbies include geology and paleohistory

It's within my pool of interests to argue about who has the cooler fossil record and plate tectonics
August 14, 2026 at 12:18 AM
It's probable that we are currently in or heading towards an ice age termination event, which paleohistory has shown to be very, very problematic.

it's hard to pick. @restingdinoface.bsky.social has an amazing bibliography of paleohistory

have happened if paleohistory had just like gone a little bit different or happened in a slightly different environment

i do think though we like to think that the true potential of life and the universe is like inconceivable to us, but like, what if its not lol

@JacquelynGill Science’s ivory tower needs fresh voices. There are endemic reasons we know 1000x more about England’s paleohistory than Jamaica’s. 13/
