I have an ancient history joke but it's all been done before.
I have an election law joke but I can't recount it.

Worth saying that papyrology is an EXTREMELY cautious discipline. We should absolutely wait for peer review processes and further work on and responses to this project. But if the papyrologists are happy, I’m happy. They are not gung-ho people!

We’re thrilled that @robertamazza.bsky.social is at the CSMC today! Tonight, she will give a talk on ‘Papyrology and Reparations’, addressing the regimes of violence, injustice, and inequality that papyrology has been enmeshed in since colonial times.
Hybrid event, all welcome!

There is a big conference of papyrology in Köln this summer. When someone else asks me why I am not going, I will send them this interview.

Yes, although the Hobby Lobby Chair of Papyrology seems to have been a bad idea.

Even older books might have been copied by hand, partially destroyed, reassembled from multiple sources by scholars, but then bowdlerized by weirdos.

Sometimes you need two or more versions just to piece together what the author's original point was.

Don't get even me started on papyrology 🙄

I think I've made a nice breakthrough for our understanding of the Egyptian astrological physiognomies! This is why having days of uninterrupted research, being able to focus on a topic, is so necessary! 🤓

3. Losing your specialised modules such as, in my field, ancient languages, palaeography, papyrology. Who needs such obscure skills you will hear. What about AI? Make sure you roll your eyes internally only.
