my parameters are locked to a given range, but i support freedom of parametrics

#Alevelmaths another underground maths activity on parametrics. Class all engaged and it was a really good review of the ideas. undergroundmathematics.org/chain-rule/p...

Converting parametrics to Cartesians. Having trawled through the textbooks I think this is the toughest one, the boss question as we are now calling them. #MathsToday

Playing with Bayesian non-parametrics for distance sampling (preprint out soon). Had a little moment where my feelings about the model were worringly conditional on how many histogram bins I used.

These four plots are from the same model fit, just different numbers of bins summarising the data.

It's time for another episode of Graph Time with Sara and Sean.  In this Episode, we partner up with @mathemagicland.bsky.social who makes awesome Desmos videos and we work on making a 90's-esque screensaver using parametrics in the 3d calculator. Enjoy! youtu.be/MQcBW8tKiaM?...

Reading old computer graphics white papers is super fun because every so often you come across the most liminal, weird looking images. Like this one from 1983.

Been saying this since that week. You can’t fool parametrics. The hard part is that the audit trail was demolished

I love this framing but it's worth noting that the plug-in machinery in {marginaleffects} doesn't work for general predictive machines. If you do any model selection or use data-adaptive machine learning methods, you'll need additional tools from semi-parametrics

Equating coefficients, but I will show long division. I find that long division tends to lead to more mistakes, and I like equating coefficients as it also becomes my building blocks of logic around vectors, Rcos(x+a) formulae, parametrics, Binomial expansion problems, Partial Fractions.

Not in the sense of non-parametrics kind of stuff, though.

Jokes aside: I have been carrying this for a while, because I want to break the (possibly unhealthy) hold of frequentist thinking on me. Still don't quite understand.

calc 2 kicked my ass so hard, then decided to finish off the semester with probably the easiest unit (polar/parametrics). im gonna scream

From the nothing I know about blending I think it looks pretty good. I am trapped in the realm of parametrics while the interesting shit is all geometric
January 12, 2026 at 4:16 AM
all my homies hate parametrics
August 15, 2026 at 2:26 PM
And honestly a better name than "non-parametrics"
April 21, 2025 at 5:45 AM
(One could argue that non-parametrics typically require a large amount of data, but that point seems kind of moot if you're in the land of five-way interactions which you'd probably never have enough data to reliably estimate in any real-world setting)

Examiner reports on #ALevelMaths often highlight errors with algebraic manipulation, especially working with subscripts.

How about challenging your students to recreate the diagram using graphing software.

Architectural discourse gave up on iconoclasm decades ago and is mostly now just chasing the next tech fad the way it used to chase French philosophers. Architects know little about ML and will discard it as soon as a new shiny tech shows up. cf NFTs, VR, parametrics, 3D printed houses …

lol. My watch tries to call parametrics pretty often
