Hitting the doors on the last day before the primary. Back in Parkfairfax, where I bought my first home in Alexandria!

I must find the Parkfairfax penguin

My fingers are frozen but it’s a great day to be back in Parkfairfax meeting voters and talking about parents, parks, pedestrians and potholes!

Further up Gunston Rd and Valley Dr, similar painted curb extensions were recently installed too! Kudos to Parkfairfax residents for helping get these installed #bikeva

Has the OP ever walked through the Parkfairfax neighborhood?

It might be a little windy, but it’s a beautiful day to be out knocking doors and chatting with voters in Parkfairfax.

This is also why the condo community in that area is called Parkfairfax despite bordering Arlington and not Fairfax.

all of Parkfairfax going down while my similar in build and age condo went up almost 20k (7% ish) is wild stuff
I have once again been compelled to do a thing because of my property tax assessment!

Behold: a map of the percentage change in assessed value of Alexandria parcels from 2025 to 2026!

Things are _happening_ in this map!

My ‘hood (Parkfairfax) was built in the early 40s and when you look at old photos of the place the two things you notice is that 1) there are no trees and 2) there are few cars

This whole area was not built for storing cars

My vacation read was Charles Bagli’s “Other People’s Money.”

It is the story of the development and sale of Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village (11K+ rentals) by MetLife. When sold, it was the largest real estate deal ever.

Of note, MetLife also developed Parkfairfax in Alexandria.

Underrated terrible intersection is Quaker at Shirlington Circle, right at the entrance to Parkfairfax. NB Quaker traffic is supposed to yield to the circle, but no one ever does, so if you need to turn into PF it's terrifying. Also turning out of PF can be extremely difficult

"feels like the country" I say to myself as I exit 395 at Shirlington and maneuver through the thousands of condos in ParkFairfax to get to my 4000 sq ft lot with neighbors on all sides

I LOVE this model! Parkfairfax has lots of this style for an older ALX example.

Do you happen to know who has jurisdiction over the pedestrian bridge from Shirlington to Parkfairfax? It’s in rough shape and the guy who’s been working on it says Arlington, Alexandria and VDOT have all been unable to help.

That’d be like buying Nixon’s condo in Parkfairfax

We've been half-joking about how long the bollards will last and/or when folks are going to use the gray areas for parking. But a big shoutout to the Parkfairfax Transportation Committee for making this happen- it took almost 2 years (!) but they saw it through.

Can confirm. ParkFairfax goes up 8-10% every year it seems like.

There's always an Alexandria angle on EVERY story.

I saw this plaque while door-knocking a few campaigns ago.

That time future Pope John Paul II visited Parkfairfax and blessed a condo...nearly 49 years ago. A great story:

The Pope's Condo in Alexandria
Every house has a history but few can say that they were blessed by the Pope. There is, however, one Alexandria condo that can make the claim.

As someone who lived in Parkfairfax in middle and high school, I am delighted to learn of someone who enjoys the architecture rather than thinking it all looks the same!
March 25, 2024 at 1:16 AM
Yes they do. My condo in Parkfairfax was right under that intersection.

lol I am Parkfairfax/Shirlington and we are on the verge in a war of conquest

Fifty years ago, an Alexandrian became President of the United States of America.

For about a week and half, the President continued to live in Alexandria and commute to the White House.
