Fine particulate pollution in lower Manhattan dropped 13% after first year of congestion pricing policy
A new study of fine particulate pollution in Manhattan’s nascent congestion relief zone shows the scheme could already be having a significant positive impact on air quality.  Since January 5, 2025, most vehicles entering Manhattan’s central business

Please remember that a lot of the bad stuff in smoke will go right through a mask. Fumes aren't caught by n95 masks. A lot of the stuff that causes smoke inhalation is chemical in nature, not particulate.

I seem to recall Billy Connolly had some well-cited uh, research observations, on this particular matter.

Or particulate matter.

Heavy containment tents held under negative air pressure and specialized filtration systems (HEPA filters) are required to prevent radioactive particulate escape into the environment or dockyard.

"...the program “Reduced air pollution produced the largest estimated benefit. Lower particulate matter 2.5 exposure inside the zone generated approximately $810 million in health benefits, while reduced carbon dioxide emissions produced an additional $9.4 million.”
Data reveals that NYC’s bet on congestion pricing has paid off
After almost two years of the program, reports show positive impacts on traffic and air quality and no disruptions to parking.

Diesel soot is super-fine btw. Air monitors for DPM (diesel particulate) use a laser because of the tiny profile: < 2.5 microns
Very dystopian that on the article about a A.I. data center poisoning the air, there's a little rainbow A.I. chatbot button just lurking at the edge, waiting to poison the air some more to answer your banal question

Every Chicagoan under the age of 50 has thought about taking an improv class at least once.

Scientists point to the high concentration of Belushi Particulate Matter in the atmosphere over the city.

I cleaned the filter and for my trouble it spat out a load of fine particulate just to _really_ improve my day

maybe taking up cycling as a hobby in which i sit next to traffic inhaling tire particulate and diesel fumes for fun did actually have negative tradeoffs

Same here. Praying that it's only Stage I. People have no idea what's actually in the thurible and the fine particulate and toxic gases contained in that incense smoke.

The heat should do it but this smoke will require it - KEEP YOUR WINDOWS CLOSED #MINNEAPOLIS!! If you must be outside, wear a particulate-rated #N95 Mask, preferably a vapor-related one. You do NOT know what toxins are in that smoke.

Robert Prevost grew up in a heavily industrialized area where ground-level ozone, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, and other air pollution have been facts of life for over a century. May he recover, and may this news bring more attention to the environmental vulnerabilities of his old neighbors.
The tests confirmed a diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, the Vatican said in a medical bulletin after the surgery. It said the diagnosis had been suspected by preoperative tests and was confirmed during surgery.
Vatican says the pope has lung cancer and the lower lobe of his right lung was removed

Since 2017, I started applying EPR spectroscopy to study environmentally persistent free radicals in particulate matter (PM) with an atmospheric chemist in my department.

(I started to become very familiar with research & spectroscopy related to the air quality index, AQI)

Better ventilation and filtration of indoor air would have given us much better protection from: asbestos, lead, mold, flu, toxic metals dust, cold, covid, measles, other airborne viruses, radionuclides, diesel exhaust, wildfire smoke, and every other airborne particulate.

This cannot be done legally he's talking utter drivel.
Until particulate rates are sustainably reduced .
Well on the way and the plan always was to cease changes at that point .

Sadly I haven’t noticed a significant decline in traffic as fuel prices have soared.
At least with EVs the particulate emissions and other exhaust products aren’t being chucked out as you sit in your nose to tail traffic jam.
