The Department of Energy HQ is purportedly cancelling all pending #FOIA requests submitted before October 1, 2024, unless the requester emails a specific address w/i 30 days asking the agency to continue processing.

This is wildly illegal.

NEW: A Homeland Security PDF uploaded to the New Hampshire governor's website included notes and metadata that revealed the DHS personnel involved in its creation. @regret.bsky.social has the scoop: www.wired.com/story/metada...

Good to know that the US agency tasked with safeguarding Americans against terrorism and cyber threats, among other things, doesn't even have a handle on metadata.

I think it's possible to write a manuscript without it, and there are (sadly increasingly fewer) word processing programs without "AI" cruft in them. In trad publishing, however, it's impossible to avoid; you have to use it eventually for edits, etc. Likewise PDF, now lardered with "AI" too.
What are your thoughts on deliberately transitioning away from it (due to the recent AI garbage Microsoft is pulling) via authors refusing to use it? Achievable?

"to conceive of robots as ‘human-like machines’ (& thus consider their rights)means to first perceive humans in machinic terms: complicated biological info processing machines. Once we see ourselves as machines, it becomes intuitive to see machines as ‘in some sense like us" arxiv.org/pdf/2404.10072

I was just referencing the PDF comments in the file thing, but broadly speaking, they're looking at two types of warehouse camps:

- "Regional processing centers" where people would be held for 3-7 days post-arrest
- Long-term facilities where people would be held for court hearings/deportations.

A reminder to always wipe metadata and don't forget to remove comments before publishing something online 🤦

I’m still going to publish these digitally. The first one, Hollow Grove, is processing now! I’ll be releasing the free pdf Friday for anyone who wants a short spooky read for the weekend.

I am the most cliché Halloween fanatic so I’ll be writing and releasing two short stories this month! One is a cerebral western horror and the other will be my first Moonlight Creek short; a story that runs parallel to 2027’s Issue #4.

I have to tell my work laptop that I don't want an AI summary of the document every time I open a PDF and my entire job is opening large PDFs. It rules, it's such a good use of time and processing power.

The ICE “processing” facility in Broadview is located in this industrial zone.

DHS has also expressed interest in purchasing property across from the current facility to build a new detention center.

The story behind this amendment is currently unclear.

During our online RPG session this week I kept getting cursor lag with one video chat open, a PDF and a Word doc. My PC is three months old and cost the best part of £2500 so it shouldn’t have even blinked in terms of processing and rendering (300mb internet too).
