Water is up in Congolese peat swamp forest, Epena, but hummocks are still relatively dry and aerobic. This might give a more varied response from carbon and nitrogen cycling than one might expect under a flood.

📢 New paper alert! We explored N₂O fluxes in tropical cloud forests of Réunion Island. Soils emit negligible N₂O, and leaves & canopy soil have nirK and nosZ type denitrifiers.
☁️ The canopy #microbiome might help mitigate N₂O.
