One of the most bizarre animals I've ever seen in person - the bowmouth guitarfish (Rhina ancylostoma). Front of body, while ray-like, is fairly deep with several isolated rows of spikes. Back of body has taller fins and a weirdly "dipped" caudal peduncle. ~8-9ft long

The cherry blossoms buds are EXPLODING. They have reached STAGE 4 -- the buzzy "peduncle elongation" stage. Peak bloom could occur in as little as a week... The weekend after this one will be hopping at the Tidal Basin!!!

The cherry blossoms buds are EXPLODING. They have reached STAGE 4 -- the buzzy "peduncle elongation" stage. Peak bloom could occur in as little as a week... The weekend after this one will be hopping at the Tidal Basin!!!

I finished spinning and plying the second half of the Peduncle silk as well. Singles were 55 wpi, and I chain plyed them to get a 3 ply fingering weight, 14 wpi yarn about 26 yards to half an ounce.
