A 61-year-old man underwent vitrectomy with perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. One week after surgery, multiple subretinal PFCL bubbles were observed at the posterior pole (A). Cross-sectional OCT demonstrates several bubbles accumulating at the fovea (B). Widefield en face OCT generated from outer plexiform layer to the retinal pigment epithelium clearly delineated the subretinal PFCL as low-reflective spherical cores with a bright hyperreflective rim (C). After surgical removal, most PFCL was eliminated and the best-corrected visual acuity improved from 0.52 to 0.10 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution.

A 56-year-old man presented with right-eye pain for 6 months. He was a known case of chorioretinal coloboma with retinal detachment, operated on 1 year earlier. Visual acuity was 1/60, and intraocular pressure was 46 mmHg. Examination revealed an inverse hypopyon (A), with emulsified silicone oil migrating into the superior angle from the pupillary area (B), and retained perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) bubbles inferiorly (C). The retained PFCL was likely due to intraoperative migration into the colobomatous area, leading to incomplete removal.

A patient presented with a macula-involving rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
