One thing I'm getting from rooting around in early postwar periodicals is that middlebrow culture was good, actually and we're impoverished for its demise.

EXTREMELY excited to report that I have just purchased a gift subscription to the Onion for my local books-to-prisoners program (they also accept periodicals).

Support good journalism, give incarcerated people a chance to laugh. Win-win!

ALL BOOKS GO IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS!
ALL PERIODICALS GO IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, ALL FILMS GO IN, ETC. It's not a local library, it's the Great LIBRARY of the United States. By law all publications have to be registered and housed.
