Urho Kekkonen single handily proving that semi personalism semi autocracy is 80 percent drip
I’m not sure whether we have to, under any circumstances, hand it to autocrats, but I’ve been under the impression that life during Tito wasn’t entirely horrible...

(And here we Finns really can’t be throwing stones after all the autocratic bullshit we happily accepted from This Guy for 25 years)

one paradox of personalism is that the more personalistic the regime, the more people instinctively attribute high and grand intentions to the ruler’s actions (good tsar bad boyars), and the smaller and more pedestrian his actual motivations become (family shit, petty revenges, superstitions, etc.)

Yeah I was appalled at the personalism and I was right to be BUT the Christian nationalists are always worse, especially the sincere ones

"The United States does not need a sovereign wealth fund administered as a menagerie of individual stakes. We have an enormous and growing economy, and the way to provide public goods on that basis is, once again, taxes collected according to general and neutral rules."

"Equity stakes allow Trump to avoid being bound by rules. Instead he can make 'deals' with each company in turn. This is the rule of men, not laws. This is crony capitalism in action." www.liberalcurrents.com/editors-note...

Obviously the conservative justices aren’t motivated by a liking for Trump’s personalism. They are motivated by a sense that Trump is the dangerous tiger they’ve got to ride in pursuit of policy goals that they would prefer to pursue by more placid means - by feigning adherence to Originalism.
“The disaster being created by today’s conservative justices isn’t motivated by a liking for Trump’s personal style of governance. It’s driven by their blind adherence to the foolish dogma of originalism.” —Noah Feldman

By ending the independence of federal agencies, the Supreme Court has taken another step toward the creation of an elected presidential dictatorship.

Imo I think personalism and “great men” of anarchism (or women like Goldman and de Cleyre) is less prominent in the late classical and post-classical anarchist periods (including ours, even wrt Bonanno) bc we got a lot better at depersonalizing organization. So we talk of FAu, AF, BRRN, CNT, etc.

I'm going to write my book about how stealing the taxpayers' pianos at a loss exemplifies the stupid personalism of this admin. Months after the East Wing was demolished, I'm still fixated on the apparent disappearance of the incredibly valuable/historic piano from its foyer.
October 1, 2026 at 8:36 PM
these are our pianos, not theirs! I know this stuff can feel secondary with all of the immediate pain this admin causes, but in the face of such personalism, it also feels important to assert the democratic principle that these cultural inheritances don't belong to the president, they belong to us

It could be or it could not be, having government take equity in companies per se isn’t the problem, it’s that it’s all part of the overall personalism and corruption of this administration

I would genuinely question the usefulness of "center", "right"...etc when talking of French politics, obvs there are sides, but so much more is pure personalism

Streamers are impactful precisely because they have among the most highly engaged and easily mobilized online communities that grow around them. But they’re not the only path to community (nor, we would argue, are they the healthiest and most stable path). www.liberalcurrents.com/editors-note...

The image and headline of “Kennedy Center DEMOLISHED” was presented to Trump by MAGA grifter Bill Pulte, who previously claimed that Federal Reserve renovation cost overruns justified removing the head of the Federal Reserve. Pulte is precisely the type of lickspittle who is empowered by personalism

Factionalism and personalism are so perilous, man.

So many people care only who says it, not what’s actually being said.

That's such a good point!

Racism <-> Stupid Crank Beliefs (RFK)<-> Trump Personalism formed a majority by being handcuffed to each other in a way that makes it hard to try to run with one without being stuck with the other two.
September 21, 2026 at 6:03 PM
maybe the problem with personalism is that when you think your power derives entirely from your self you become blind to any other source of power; as a version of narcissism, it is structurally incapable of witnessing competing sources.
