Conventional wisdom among architects in DC has been that Eric Colbert is a hack copyist, but here his firm delivered a LEED Platinum /Phius CORE, 1:1 replacement affordable housing project that looks crisper than basically every other multifam building opened in DC in the very busy year of 2024.

I appreciate the tip, I’m going to look into PHN. For us, the addtl burden of the PHIUS process just makes it unrealistic for most projects. To be fair, this is far less of a problem with PHIUS than it is regressive zoning regs in the cities we work in most.

Is there much difference between PHN and PHIUS methodology? I’m a certified CPHC thru PHIUS, but not familiar with PHN yet. It’s been really challenging where we work to mesh passive house design with all of the other administrative, economic and labor challenges that already exist.

1.5 gal/minute (5.7 L/min) is common in hotels for this reason. These can work great, provided enough pressure is available at the shower (pressure is different from flow). Gary Klein’s study ‘Why Your Shower is Wimpy’ presented at PHIUS in 2023 illustrates the importance of a good showerhead.
