Everyone is so quick to cancel any kind of small project/creator for any kind of potential maleficence but I guarantee that at the end of the day they're sending texts from an Android or iPhone instead of something like the Pinephone

Update: It takes like, a whole day for the PinePhone to compile this, once it finishes I will update the library with performance improvements and do further work on my desktop lol.
Replaced the calls app for similar reasons. Can now get back to patches on the verified libtiff.
Replaced GNOME Chatty because it's an app that accepts arbitrary SMS and MMS inputs written in C, and passes along MMS attachments to media decoders written in C by default without even having to interact with them first. Basically the whole thing is a zero click exploit waiting to happen.

Welp, I really wanted to see PinePhone succeed but the terrible spec hardware, awful fracturing of the community, absolutely abhorrent user base, and general apathy toward doing anything to improve the ecosystems makes me think it's never ever going to be anything more than a frustrating hobby.

I haven't thoroughly tested it yet but at first glance this seems to mean I now have a better transcription app on PinePhone (albeit not in real time) than I do on my "real" phone.

Took a break from PinePhone to see if I can get Astra to replace libtiff with formally verified Rust code. So far it seems so? Will need to test and benchmark against the existing libtiff.
