Now that the ecology survey season has died down it’s time to get this naturally dyed warp on the loom. Colours were derived from various plants in spring earlier this year (madder, yew hollyhock, ivy, hawthorn, onions), combining with modifiers to get different shades.

Had fun with pomegranate peels. Used it to dye wool fabric and yarn. After I put the wool and yarn in an iron after bath to get this beautiful green 💚

There will be a mini plant dyeing workshop held at Gripen Gard farm at Holsnøy the last weekend of August. It's an opportunity to learn something new if you are in Hordaland area 🌿

My mountain Marigold is in full bloom here in inland Southern California. This hardy plant always survives our harsh summers. Will be going in a dye pot soon! #plantdye #naturaldye #marigold #gardening

Okay, attempt two! This time I used alum as a mordant beforehand and extended the rest times generously.

Cross yer fingers, craft and dye friends!

A February batch of avocado dye. I'm not normally much of a fan of pink, but how could you not love it when brown shrivelly things that were destined for the compost give you a colour like this? Avocado pits and skins have won me over.

Whilst on holiday last week, I came across a walnut tree, a rare find here in the UK. We’d had a couple of windy nights and the ground was covered with immature walnuts, which I quickly scooped into a bag. Today I dyed a gradient set of hand spun mini skeins using the outer husks from the walnuts.

The French marigolds and coreopsis are flowering well in the garden and I have been picking and drying them for some time. I have just used up the remainder of last year’s marigold flowers and dyed one skein of Romney yarn and two of Portland, all hand spun.

Last year I had too much Japanese indigo to use it all fresh, so I dried it for future use. Today I used it for the first time and was very pleased with the results on this mini skein set.

For my #knitting #WiPs this week I'm sharing socks under construction. Hopefully they will become pairs but ... 😄. I'm using wool I dyed with plants from a rare-breed sheep called Lonk, which is said to be hard-wearing, so I thought I'd test it out. (details in Alt text) #permaculture #plantdye

Don't know about you but I'm fed up with the grey, cold and dismal, so I thought I'd share a bit of warm and hopeful yellow. Inspired by sweetcorn, it's called Zea. I've just put the pattern on Ravelry as a freebie. Enjoy 😊🌼#knitting #yellow #plantdye

Anyone can learn how to make botanical colour last on textiles. The trick is to have an experienced teacher guide you! 😉
