I will post the full Wolfman/Perez/Ordway interview from Amazing Heroes later - but some very interesting item here. For example Tarantula was never meant to be there (I guess he was supposed to be Plasmus)... Plasmus was supposed to be Clayface.

...and replaced Plasmus with Tarantula (from ALL-STAR SQUADRON) because he was not sure who the character he had mistaken Plasmus for was at the time...

I suspect this was in pages 7-8 of CRISIS #5, as Plasmus and Tarantula are nearly opposite of each other in the double-page spread...

The middle image is from the 1998 recolor, which saw special effects (that shining effects on Luthor!), shading, lightning effects... but also had miscoloring of Plasmus and Penguin. The facsimile reverts back to the original colors, but made some minor changes (Judy and Black Mass)

On page 59, which included a brief interview with artist extraordinaire @jerryordway.bsky.social, the CRISIS inker admitted that one time he had mistaken sketchy pencils of Clayface for Plasmus and inked him as such, and then came across a sketchy figure of Plasmus in the same double-page scene...
An excerpt from an interview with Jerry Ordway regarding his experience working on CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, from page 59 of AMAZING HEROES #91: Who's Who? As far as detail inking on the more obscure characters, Ordway relied almost totally on Perez's tight pencils. "There were only a couple of characters I totally confused. Although I'm a long-time comic reader, some of those guys just didn't ring a bell. DC credited George's pages as 'breakdowns' because they were slightly scribbly, I guess, but all the character work was pretty much complete. Also, I work in a studio with Mike Maclan and Al Vey, a fellow who helps us with backgrounds and stuff, and Al is an old-time DC reader. He knew a lot of the characters, and I just called him over to look over my shoulder a lot. "Perez had Clayface and Plasmus in that double-page spread, and I had inked one side of it before the other. I had changed Clayface to Plasmus, because that's who I thought he was--then I got to the other page and didn't know who the other guy was, so I just put Tarantula in there. I didn't have any other choice, I was totally stuck."
