A walk around the front paddock amongst the pine trees and yes I had the feeling that I was being watched. The Southern Boobook, Australia's smallest owl.

The Southern Boobook (Australia's smallest owl) must have had a really Hard Days Night as not even the Willy Wagtail couldn't make it budge from the Sheoaks outside the dining room window this morning. There it was eyes tight shut fast asleep.

Well seeing as the local wildlife and birds have gone away on holiday I thought I would try out some landscape photography instead.
The Lay of the Land.

I'll stick my neckout and hazard a guess. Juvenile Brown Goshawk and not a Collared Sparrowhawk. The two are hard to tell apart.

"Sunday morning I rise
And I stand to face a new dawn
Sunday morning
Anew day is born"
A walk out the back paddock there was mist in the valley and sheep by the old Shepherds Hut.

End of the year when photographers pick their favourites. Not sure if this is mine but definitely my favourite encounter. The image is not cropped just that my 500mm lens was too close ! Wedge Tailed Eagle flying over the Camels Hump.

Well the improvised repairs we made to the Willy Wagtail nest are holding up and the one surviving chick is thriving. Both parents are feeding and looking after both ends by the looks of things. Aren’t Mums great !

Beneath the Southern Cross I fly, this is Australia.
Over the back paddock last night a Magpie flies away from my neighbours Southern Cross windpump.

Not even time for a cup of tea this morning here at #playersfarm as the moon was about to fall behind the Camels Hump. The sheep made the image all the better.

A recently fledged pair of Nankeen Kestrels taking a break from Flight School. Their Dad has been putting them through it. I'm guessing that the one on the left is female, male on the right? Hard to tell until the male develops a grey head?

Gaffa tape fixes everything. The Willy Wagtail nest was blown from the tree. So I taped it back with the chicks. Severe winds damaged the nest even more, so I tied an old vest around it. One chick survived. Both parents happy, remaining chick thriving.

Cheeky!
Yesterday was a scorcher 42 Centigrade.
There were two Roos resting beneath the pine trees in the front paddock. Kangaroos don't have sweat glands so they lick their forearms with saliva to cool down a network of blood vessels.

The Boobook was in the Sheoaks outside the dining room window this morning fast asleep. It was prodded by the Willy Wagtails, screeched at by the Noisy Miners, even the male Blackbird had a go. But it wasn't budging for any of them.

42 degrees is forecast today so the pair of Kangaroos are still resting beneath the Pine trees in our front paddock.
To keep cool they give themselves a spit bath by licking their forearms as Kangaroos don't have any sweat glands.

Please Sir can I have some more? The pose of this Eastern Grey Kangaroo reminds me of a scene from the #charlesdickens Oliver Twist film. Truth be told it was eating a handful of tree bark from a Gum Tree in our bottom paddock of #playersfarm. It ate the lot.

Can anyone remember that episode of Get Smart where Agent 99 dressed up in a Kangaroo costume to help gather intelligence on a Russian Agent? No neither can I.

A Hare sits amongst the lovely purple Salvation Jane. it's a weed by the way.
The European Hare it's an introduced species in Australia and when I am out walking around the paddocks at Players Farm at times I almost step on them.

No better way is there to spend a nice summers day in Australia. Scrape yourself a bed in the pine needles at Players Farm. There are two Kangaroos that do this and they have gotten so use to us that they never bother to move. They must be comfy.

Okay so the grass might be greener on the other side but just be careful when you arrive.
Okay I am putting the camera down now and will have you out in a jiffy.

I went for a walk around the paddocks to find the Sparrowhawk that has been hanging around #playersfarm But instead I found the Kangaroo that they used in the Qantas logo. He's still owed millions in royalties but he has clocked up loads of frequent flyer points.

We have a new head gardener at #playersfarm A male Eastern Grey Kangaroo. They are struggling with this drought so yesterday I put out some Roo food in an old Dog bowl. He came bounding over the fence and began eating it straight away.

A message to all those thirsty horses out there please watch carefully as this is how it is done. My Roocam has been picking up all manner of wildlife quenching their thirst at the water trough.

Which way did my Mum go ?
A recently born lamb had gotten out of the paddock last night so I kindly pointed him back in the right direction.

Well it's official. South Australia is officially in drought. It must be right as our rain tanks are getting low and I even bought a bag of Roofood. But this male Kangaroo seems to be thriving on our dried grass.
