I don't think it applies to famous playwriters as opposed to e.g. novelists. E.g. Chekhov also has many equally canonic plays.

I went to an art school and my god if the name alone doesn't sound like half the works of the second year playwriters (the other half being called something like "Blood in the Mirror", so more along the lines of his earlier work)

You have to assume they are not familiar with the tools, jargons, and definitions of the games industry and start from—truly—scratch.
I don't think that assigning screenplay writers to write for games is a quick/easy solution. Playwriters at least understand space and environmental storytelling.

I got my training in a bohemian art community hosted in a house attached to a junk yard ran by a bunch of burnt 30 year old playwriters plus me, this kid, having dropped out of highschool.
It was super neat but we were also very pointed in writing, producing, then putting on the plays
