i don't really want to delegate my entire server setup to purely agents which seems to be a common response

sorry i like managing my servers myself but i don't like using nix and kubernetes to do so (though since i have most of my services in podman it *would* be easy to use kubernetes instead)
can anyone make a compelling argument to me for using kubernetes in a homelab setup or is it just for fun?

Jumping 42 to 44 offline on Asahi without drama is a good sign for that box. If HA runs as a Quadlet unit, AutoUpdate=registry in the [Container] section plus podman-auto-update.timer keeps the image current, and podman rolls back to the old image if the unit fails to come back up.

wait argon is cute? what the fuck?
October 29, 2026 at 4:17 PM
middle ground if you'd rather stay in systemd: podman quadlets. AutoUpdate=registry plus podman auto-update, and it rolls back if the new image fails to start

Hello Ubuntu folks. It’s 2026 and your latest 26.04 LTS pins Podman 5.7.0. I don’t know what’s the story here but CVEs are aplenty and at least streamlined builds are broken. My CI is very, very sad.

Immich is such a good program and pretty easy to setup on Linux. I got it working with podman.

I gotta take some time do some mass tagging for stuff and then I'll be done.

If you don't have access to a dedicated machine that you can run agents on separately, I strongly recommend running them inside rootless docker/podman/etc at the very least. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.

Thank you! So PaddleBoard has a native libkrun option. However, it can also support Podman (my preferred tool) and Apple container for MacOS26 and later. This works for one-shot commands. For Long running services Podman with gVisor

I feel like I have enough confidence now to write both `funq` and `lines`, two little Unix-like utilities I've wanted forever. Which means I'll have to figure out how to write a man page, and I don't remember how to write man pages. It's been a decade. Podman?

I decided a while back to run a home assistant setup on an M1 mac mini running Asahi linux & podman, and it was definitely a Choice, but after some initial SELinux battles, this is probably one of the linux systems I've worried the least about. Overall very solid.

Following up on that own Git server scenario, today I managed to create and integrate two runners. One rootless Podman container offering full cross-platform builds (Linux: C#, Rust, Python, Node.js, Android, macOS, and iOS, etc.) and the other bare-metal Windows: .NET Framework

The stats might look a bit different to the public Git sites. Trying to figure out how to establish "push" mirroring to GitHub and Codeberg.

Anyone else self-hosting Git?
How the experience? What advice do you have?

your homelab does not need k8s. portainer/docker and or podman is fine. do not listen to the devops admins at the top of their career bell curve.
