anyway the idea is to make a lore game using the Pokecrystal dissassembly as a base but also remove all pokemon intellectual property from it and make my own monster catcher kinda game i think

its going annoying so for but i don't hate it (things keep breaking)

Completely vibe coded using GPT #Codex 5.3 + #Cursor, I created a port of pret/pokecrystal GBC assembly code to #TypeScript with vite in just one afternoon 😱. Still struggles though making WebAudio sound like a GBC. No game frameworks, just canvas and web technologies.

The cut Sweet Honey mechanic would have used a Honey Pot item for storing it, spreadsheets from the 2020 leak mention that it was found in the Goldenrod Dept. Store basement before it was cut, luckily the July 14th structure file was commented and shows its exact location:

so.

i figured out (mostly - there is still a bug on the map where if there's a trainer battle and you lose the game just softlocks) how to add trainer battles and trainer types (god the documentation for pokecrystal is so rad) and now I guess I start adding in features I want and go from there.

I also wanted to give a shout out to folks like @cilerba.com - I’ve been following your work for better part of a year now and you inspired me to make something myself!

And thanks to pret, smithplays, soupapple, and countless others in the pokecrystal rom hacking community for docs, tutorials, etc

honestly now that I am talking about open source and blind accessibility you should check out the pokecrystal-access. A cool lua script that was made almost 10 years ago to make VBA be more accessible with the Pokemon games.

so with the pokecrystal decompile being a thing.

theoretically, seeing as I'm going to be removing the animations for sprites and *probably* the mobile stuff that's in the code

could I get it to compile for a DMG?

also if anyone knows that would be sick, but i'll prolly look into it

Progress thru PokeCrystal:

6/8 Johto Badges
5/6 Team Members Caught (?)
Red Gyrados Captured
Eevee adorable

think.... think maybe this just might work

today i started writing a neat little script that pulls data from an online spreadsheet as csv and turns it into data usable by the pokecrystal disassembly. i wouldn't be surprised if teams working on existing pokemon romhacks have some sort of automation like this but it was fun to roll my own ^^

I made it with the pokecrystal disassembly and a text editor. I use BB Edit on Mac, but any plain text editor will work. Some even have plugins for the assembly language!

Might be considering making a romhack

very excited for this…any chance it will be open source so that I can attempt to incorporate it into my own fork of pokecrystal 🙏

My basis for this sort of thing as always been the pokered/pokecrystal disasm. They've come up with a very intuitive and readable macro format for song logic!

Hey I was wondering, could we get a link to the project you're referring to here pretty please? I'm struggling to find it with the closest equivalent being this one I found, but it lists Claude as a contributor so I don't think this one's it...

Then finally 00 is the terminator for the evo data, so after that the learnset for Ivysaur starts, which you've already understood to be the level it's learned then the ID of the move.
The pokecrystal disassembly has a file that specifically handles this, if referencing it would be helpful.

right now i'm just working on the known bug fixes that the tutorials have situated and making them easier to apply to any pokecrystal project for?? reasons?? (easier time fixing my issues later on mostly)

might not even need most of em but i'd rather work from a better base

When I was tinkering with #pokecrystal, I wanted to implement new sfx, retroactively adding standard fanfares that didn't exist back in the late 90s. By using a custom list, a new true/false conditional check calling it and with aid of Crystal Tracker, I added the now classic Berry fanfare #assembly

this is such a goated project, the code is surprisingly readable (for assembly, anyway) with good comments
January 7, 2026 at 6:48 AM
I was just thinking about it because a very similar project was when I spent a considerable length of time creating a pokemon randomizer of my own for exactly PokeCrystal and got a decent ways in before being like, really no one is going to want to use this when a more popular one exists.
