Also Anakin was bitchmade and could never make a decentralized polity maintain a Fabian strategy

Also: Americans, famously members of a polity that never killed children.

I'm grateful for all of this essential work, & also the fact that it was necessary is Exhibit A that the United States is not a full democracy. These things are totally unnecessary in such countries, & we need to stop normalizing & tolerating this as an inevitable & permanent feature of our polity.
I'll be writing more about this later, but the fact that there are no ICE (or other armed) federal agents at the polls and no federal takeover of elections is not because we are "lucky" or our system is "strong:" it took a ton of hard work from lawyers, election administrators and civil society.

This is a sign of a state, society, political system, & polity that has been purposefully broken & under extreme stress. We need to remember that the road to Trump's attempt to create a managed illiberal democracy was paved by the managed illiberal democracies of the GOP trifecta states. 1/
A family member in Colombus, OH just sent this to me—she’s voting today with her son, who just turned 18 three days ago! LOOK AT THOSE LINES! Amazing! This is the last day of early voting in Ohio and voters are turning out like crazy! 🔥🔥

When someone tells you it is about citizenship; that is a distraction. A citizen gets the right to vote—that is important, obviously—but the the 13th and 14th Amendments come before the 15th; they set the pre-conditions: a polity cannot be subordinated and a politiy must be inclusive to persons.

Anyway, most of you should probably just get ready to block me starting at 9-10PM or so tomorrow.

2028 is gonna be the gates of hell vomiting forth into the American polity.

I mean, the concept he is unsuccessfully groping for because he doesn't want to find it is shame.

You do not have to feel guilt for something your polity did before you were alive, but you can feel pride (for the good) or shame (for the bad).

But I imagine shame is precisely what he does not want.

no i actually think that things in the polity i live in can be broadly speaking improved by the mechanisms of democratic reform. sucks to be you if that's not the case in yours
Yes and there is a constituency of people on this planet who only understand violence & death, at some point we’re going to have to give it to them. Will we poison our souls in the process? Yes. Can we redeem ourselves? Also yes. There are no easy answers.
he /is/ someone who fantasises about bloody revolution though and i am quite against having one :)

Tbh if 70% of the polity are evil there’s really nothing that can be done about that lmao

Americans see multiple parties and think it'll make politics too dysfunctional like their two-party system has already created a perfectly functional polity.
This, my comrades, is why Proportional Representation is not a great idea.

Imagine trying this with 350 million people across 50 states

Counterpoint: LOL, nope. We should absolutely celebrate if the USians manage to neuter their insane wannabe dictator and start the long journey back to being a sane and reasonable polity.
COMMENTARY: If Democrats do as well as expected in today’s U.S. midterm elections, champagne corks will pop across Europe.

But those raising a glass may want to think about the morning after.

I've been collecting the Polity series. Can't wait for the paperback for this.

One of the things I have deeply appreciated about the No Kings demonstrations as well as all the protests and actions against ICE is the prevalence of the American flag as the dominant symbol.

This is good. It is useful

We *want* the flag of our polity to be associated with our values.
November 3, 2026 at 10:14 PM
I can respect the quaker sort of personal ethical pacifism of "I will never participate in violence for any reason" but not the "a polity has no right to defend itself from aggression" pacifism
October 31, 2026 at 12:43 PM
Our parties aren’t going to do this for us because basically they can’t. The fight precedes the people we choose to represent us because we as a polity need to have as close to zero tolerance for this horseshit as possible. Make them know that they will pay for it with their (political) lives.
October 30, 2026 at 5:02 PM
That is the action of a polity that has lost its moral compass completely; we have become a yahoo nation that casually and arbitrarily introduces utterly vicious regulations.
October 30, 2026 at 12:55 PM
I realize these matters are far from the most egregious things this monster has done and continues to do. But symbolically speaking, to me, it represents the destruction of the American polity from the inside.

He wrote in his autobiography about the shit people like this put him through every time he tried to be half-way decent about Middle East polity. He has 15 years of rage built up. He TOTALLY gave them the business. (I’d give a paycheck to hear those phone calls).

FWIW, I thought (and still think) McCain behaved in a way that was necessary –– he defended his political opponent as a member of the polity in good standing

its unextraordinary William Gibson wrote seminal cyberpunk literature such as Neuromancer out of Vancouver. British Columbia is possibly the only extant polity unilaterally established by a corporate monopoly with its private military to police encroaching competitors
October 29, 2026 at 10:10 PM
I remember a podcast introducing their interview with Weigel with how the guy is basically a nihilist and turned it off after that. A healthy polity simply doesn’t listen to people like that.
Not to single out David here, but this makes me want to scream. You can find great political analysts who haven’t been accused by a dozen women of sexual misconduct when they were running a news division. Predators have the news judgment of predators, and that makes them blind to all kinds of things
