Lignins, a wood industry byproduct, are apparently effective against viruses & bacteria, scientists in Finland have found. The polyphenol has potential as a promising green alternative to synthetic antimicrobials. Tests show lignins are active against #SARSCoV2 as well as Staph aureus & E. coli👇

Berries like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are polyphenol powerhouses, packed with fiber, vitamin C, and anthocyanins that support brain function, heart health, and blood sugar balance.

Tip: Frozen berries are just as nutritious as fresh, can be cheaper and will keep for longer.

I was writing something and confused the word lignan, a polyphenol precursor to phytoestrogens, for example in beans that I always have on my mind, when I meant lignin, the rigid cell structure of wood

if that had made it out into the world I would have been dragged on the tree forums so hard

When tissues of the apple are exposed to oxygen, an enzyme called POLYPHENOL OXIDASE (PPO) activates & begins converting phenolic compounds to quinones.

These polymerize, like beads on a string, into ALLOMELANIN.

Allomelanin acts like a blood clot, creating a barrier that blocks further damage.
