This is why I have never understood the idea that Black people focus on slavery too much. Baby, it's the historical equivalent of last week. We're not even 200 years post slavery.
america is such a young country.

New York Times and Washington Post:

Trump's Executive Order Reinstating Slavery Has Invigorated His Supporters. But Some Question Whether It's Legal.
If Trump excreted an executive order legalizing slavery, every right wing site on the internet would instantly co-sign.

for the right child abuse has a similar rhetorical function to slavery—everything they don’t like is child abuse/slavery, except for actual child abuse/slavery, which is not that big of a deal https://bsky.app/profile/davidjroth.bsky.social/post/3k4np66h3dq2s

<—looking forward to the “how slavery was bad” post from the Newsom social media team today.
Lay up.

I really do think this might be the worst Supreme Court of all time, which is saying something for an institution that coexisted with slavery

These motherfuckers are even worse imo bc they are *also* out here using antebellum reasoning and pursuing antebellum goals but well post bellum!

We are doomed to relive every stupid thing about the 80s.

Only this it’s not just the mistakes of the 1980s corporate greed. It’s also the 1880s post reconstruction environment, and the 1780s love of slavery. :(
Trump: "We're gonna spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising how bad drugs are so that kids don't use them."

Oh look. An account that only went active to search for and post about this drama nonstop for almost 2 days now.

Yes. Losers. Thanks for offering yourself as example.

Also lmfao at Malfoy being tragic. The series is a pile of retcons that frames being annoying about slavery as worse than slavery.

Exploiting black labor after the abolition of slavery
In the 12 years following the abolition of slavery, former slaves made meaningful political, social and economic gains. This moment was short-lived.

There’s probably no connection between Trump’s post suggesting slavery wasn’t that bad, his restoration of monuments honoring Confederates, and renaming of military bases to honor traitors who believed that it was simply a property right being taken from them without just cause.
August 19, 2025 at 11:47 PM
The story about Trump ordering the removal of references to slavery from national Parks is being censored on here by the moderation service because it wrongly labeled the photo of an enslaved person with scars from being whipped on their back as "self harm."

This has been going on since slavery. White people had lynching parties! Complete with post cards!

i love that one of the accounts that responded to this post did so to scream at me for being “obsessed with race,” i guess because slavery is in the title of this book?

Also: the stereotype about Black people and fried chicken came about because, post-slavery, so many Black women successfully supported themselves and their families by selling homemade fried chicken to white people at train stations. It was one of the few lucrative jobs open to the newly free.
I am going to eat watermelon this summer because the reason why white Americans ridiculed black people about watermelons is that we were making MONEY selling them

This is a genuinely incredible post: comparing slavery to the liberation of the Netherlands during WWII effectively reduces Britain's centuries-long involvement in slavery and the slave trade to the act of abolition. The real problem about the legacies of empire is apparently a lack of gratitude 🫪

Imagine being born in slavery and living up until 5 months before the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Anna Julia Cooper is one of my favorite people in history. She was born on August 10, 1858, and lived to the age of 105.

I can't sum her up in a single post, but she was born 167yrs ago today
