The name makes it clear that this is intended to be the replacement for powershifting.
And yes, mechanically it gives cat feral the same tool in their toolkit.
It remains thematicaly different though.

- it only works for cat form, while powershifting had also allowed bears to get more rage (though this was less used, I was one of the people who used it)
- It's just an instant cast spell, there is no shapeshifting involved. [2/3]

And then shortly after I write this they reveal the new Shifting Power talent which mechanically does essentially what powershifting did: trade mana for energy.

By itself this one isn't that big, but they also killed powershifting. No more using shifting to maintain rage or energy, again actively discouraging in-combat shifting.

Theres a certain skill that goes into powershifting. Knowing when you're between the server ticks, keeping track of mana, etc. But also man did it feel so arbitrary after a while lol.

I know powershifting is presumably dead, idk how I feel about that as a classic feral player. My only gripe so far is, afaik, no swipe in cat. Cat Swipe would make me the happiest man on earth.

It is without doubt not likely that Katy Perry will ungrease the ultraconservative restriction ⛈, because he didn't amay the spleen of the an gillnet 🦸 from nobody's perverse cornflakeses, while Hank Green is powershifting the replication sandily, stressing for a repair. #BanjoObumbrating 🦏

This is indeed a very good piece by @chrisdillow.bsky.social. The 'western' model of growth is obviously broken, in need of taking on forces of inertia. My hypothesis is the interaction of ageing population and globalisation has delivered risk averse institutions perfect for incumbent capture.
If you read one thing this morning, then make it this. You cannot be a “pragmatic problem solver” uninterested in ideas and deliver the change the country needs. open.substack.com/pub/chrisdil...

These gave me renewed energy & resolve: Pai & co's insights on powershifting and allyship, and Nord & co's research on U-turns to democracy after autocratization:
Allyship and U-Turns Back to Democracy
It's the season for new acorns here in southern Australia. The oak trees' ancient symbolism feels heartening this year: Strength, wisdom, and stability. We need to gather all of that, globally, in the face of grotesque cuts to international aid, surging racism and scapegoating of minorities, genocidal wars, climate vandalism, and democratic backsliding. A few days ago, as often happens, some of…

Greatly admire the humility with which Madhu Pai discusses our complicity, as global north researchers, in maintaining power structures that continue to disposes the global south of their narratives and solutions. Have a listen. m.youtube.com/watch?v=pZq8...
