#prebunking
“Prebunking” has been found to be very effective in neutralizing disinformation
Journalists: please, please get ready for this in ADVANCE. We know Trump's going to claim "new evidence shows the 2020 election was stolen". You've got 3 days to write a story that confronts that lie head-on before he says it - pre-write this like an obit. America is begging you: plan ahead. 1/

Pritzker is doing a great job of both framing and prebunking.

Framing — he’s giving a way of understanding what the administration is trying to do by giving a different American narrative.

Prebunking — he’s warning people about the disinfo, the false narrative, the Trump people will use.
Pritzker: It appears they are amassing ICE officers… It’s been reported that about 300 officers are planning to come in and do what they did in LA — terrorize neighborhoods and cause mayhem. Their plan is to create enough chaos on the ground that troops will have to be called in

Fascinating new study in @science.org shows that prebunking improves *discernment* of election misinformation with biggest effects among Reps with greatest initial misperceptions about election fraud & lowest trust in the election. Prebunking outperformed debunking.

Illinois Governor Pritzker appears to be engaging in a prebunking “inoculation” strategy similar to that recommended by @profsanderlinden.bsky.social in his book Foolproof.
Pritzker: "Unidentifiable agents in unmarked vehicles with masks are planning to raid Latino communities and say they're targeting violent criminals."

What if the best way to fight misinformation is to stop it before it starts?

Prebunking might be the key to restoring confidence in elections. A three large-scale experiments revealed prebunking boosts public trust and reduces belief in fraud—even in polarized democracies.

6/ Prebunking tries to reverse that.

Instead of memorizing which claim is false, people learn recurring tactics such as emotional manipulation, false dichotomies, impersonation, polarization, conspiratorial framing, and ad hominem attacks.
