The higher education sector significantly underestimates the appetite and aggression behind cherry-picked rage-bait anti-science campaigns. Those who do not understand this playbook risk being “scalped” next.

Well some places do grant pretenure sabbaticals. He says it was a combination of sabbatical and parental leave. He must have spent all his time with the parenting because no peer reviewed publications came out of that leave.

Our chairs usually have 3 year terms. So one might (typically) have 3 chairs pretenure. At my old job the provost was a revolving door.

I am on board with this. Editing my second edited volume with global south authors and pretenure. I hope it gets appreciated down the line.

However, given the state of faculty organizing at my workplace (I’m pretenure and mostly worked here during pandemic, FWIW), I can’t hold out much hope.

5:30: up, coffee, feed pets, walk the dog, drink coffee while reading social media/listening to podcasts, answer 1st round of emails
6:50: get kids up, shower, get partly ready for work
7:30: take kid to school, take dog on longer walk, start laundry

As someone with fatigue/pain related disabilities I would say less welcoming pretenure due to relentlessness of clock and vague expectations, plus fear of discrimination if you ask for accommodations. There are plusses though-having a more flexible schedule has been huge
