The existence of public sector unions puts pro-union politicians in the uncomfortable position of acting as management in a labor negotiation. That's fine.
The expectation there should be that the pro-labor position is "negotiate in good faith" not "they have to give the union everything they want"

fwiw, “cheap goods from china” really understates the high quality of manufacturing you can get from chinese suppliers these days. also, we can have real prosperity with pro labor economy and a generous social insurance state but they don’t want that!
