Why stop at academics? There are so many of us in so many professions who would be thrilled to be poached!
If Canadian universities had a bit of vision, they would be launching a Manhattan project to poach every US-based top researcher. And the federal government would be drastically expanding tri-council funding and creating an expedited review process for those holding NSF and similar grants.

For all his professions of piety, Mike Johnson is a gifted liar
WELKER: If the big beautiful bill does add to the debt, will Trump own it?

JOHNSON: It's not gonna add to the debt

W: Experts say this will add trillions to the deficit. Can you really guarantee this will not add one penny of debt?

JOHNSON: I'm telling you this is going to reduce the deficit

Dentistry is one of the most corrupt professions in America. Just rife with fraud like this.
in the spring i saw a dentist, he said i had 8 cavities and it would be $2k to get them all fixed. i went to the dentist yesterday, guy says I have no cavities and that he doesn't know why the first guy told me that. cool profession

Trump says he “can't imagine any professions that are more dangerous” than President. I can think of one or two. Palestinian journalist, for example.

truly amazing how many different professions there are where everyone’s newest persistent headache is “AI zealots high on their own supply”
Met a 40yo gallery-ist at a party in SF. We spent most of the party talking abt the art world, but mostly what she talked abt was how most of her life now is telling AI “artists” that they are not artists, she won’t sell their “work” in her gallery, & that “prompt writer” isn’t an artistic medium.

I do admire people who make gold with professions. I lose gold with professions. Professions is what I spend gold on.

While many professions/businesses use the term "customers" at a library you're a "patron," which I think sounds much nicer and fancier.

Professions take accountability seriously.
Former US military lawyers speak out:

"The Former JAGs Working Group unanimously considers both the giving and the execution of these orders, if true, to constitute war crimes, murder, or both."

We're about to see how capitalism impedes solidarity in real time... I hope other professions take heed.
Breaking News: CNN and MS NOW journalists were denied access to the White House after President Trump announced a ban on three news outlets because of reporting he disliked.
CNN and MS NOW Reporters Barred From White House After Trump Announces Ban
The prohibition on certain journalists was a stark escalation in President Trump’s war on the media, and will probably face a legal challenge.

The term "first responders" is a brilliant marketing tactic that blurs together all these professions into a single monolith.

Grouping cops in with firefighters and nurses (who consistently rank as the most trusted professions) allows cops to benefit from the "halo effect" while ranking much lower.

I think Tommy Tuberville is very dangerous and him going to congress trying to call out specific sexual minorities that should be discriminated against in certain professions is very dangerous
