Sharing this because NYers who are unenthusiastic about casting a vote for Kathy Hochul need to know that the alternative, Bruce Blakeman, is a genuinely evil piece of shit. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/n...
Blakeman Launches Graphic Attack on Mamdani in Meeting With Hasidic Jews (Gift Article)
While seeking support from Hasidic leaders, the Republican candidate for governor, Bruce Blakeman, said Mayor Zohran Mamdani would not act if riots hit their community.

Not that Spielberg is a chump with that kinda thing but I worked for several years in a satellite TV newsroom and the control room scene in DISCLOSURE DAY is so authentic that they literally hired one of our sat operators to play one
I’m gonna reverse this question for fun: what’s a movie whose historical verisimilitude impressed you in proportion for what you were expecting? My choice is Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure bsky.app/profile/dear...
Prompts a fun question: whats the most niche historical inaccuracy in a piece of work that annoys you

Not like 'oh they were referring to the wrong king' , more 'they had the wrong king on a banknote in one scene'

What a ridiculous figure Robert Eggers is, making a series of beautiful, confrontationally uncompromising films about subjects in which he is deeply interested. Let's get him

Every now and then I get this braindead response on here, some centrist who's furious that anyone would ever demand that Democrats actually do something.

Yeah, I know Republicans exist, man. I just don't think they're going to listen to me.

But I think the party that asks for my vote might?

This is a fair question and I want to answer it. Dem leadership has been promising accountability for years. Where are the specific actions they’re prepared to take? At some point, repeatedly promising accountability without identifying a mechanism or a timeline stops being a meaningful response.
He says they will pursue full accountability for rogue departments!

Take out the phrase 'raises questions' and what is your problem with it?

People like this are why we can’t actually win in any meaningful way. There’s never a shortage of apologists and bootlickers
I mean, get a grip. What's he supposed to do? Stand in front of the White House with a bullhorn. Save your outrage for Patel

+1 to all this, and what's genuinely depressing is thinking about what Dems will do about it if they come back into power (nothing)
The Omar story today and the Talarcio story yesterday are the same story of rat-fucking your opponents before an election. Except now the government does it, out in the open.

I realize it often feels like nothing matters anymore, but a comedian going on SNL and calling women whores— calling the ordinary women he sees at the gym *whores* — because of their clothes matters to me. It’s really gross, and I’m glad Levy said something.

Counterpoint: why on earth does it fucking matter?

Chin-scratching, soft-focus bullshit like this serves exactly one purpose: it gives these water carriers plausible deniability when the pendulum swings so they can try to reframe themselves as sensible centrists.

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.
