My book ‘The Revenge of Reason’ is the best place to look, especially ‘Prometheanism and Rationalism’, ‘On Containing Multitudes’ and ‘Why Does Anything Matter?’. There should be some more work about motivation, inductive bias, and computational nondeterminism in the near future.

But I’ve written more about this in ‘Prometheanism and Rationalism’ in my book, and written a long essay called Geist in the Machine where I lay out the case for building artificial souls we see as peers. Also got my own scifi novel on the topic coming out next year.

You might want to check out this book by Mary Shelley: ‘Frankenstein; or the Modern Prometheus’. There’s also a play by her husband ‘Prometheus Unbound’. This is quite literally where the Romantic tradition of Prometheanism has its origins.

I’m not a total convert to Wolfendale’s left-accelerationist Prometheanism, for reasons that I make clear in the review. But overall I think that the book is pretty incredible, and I’d recommend it to anyone interested in philosophy of AI, accelerationism/transhumanism, cognitive computationalism…

She developed a kind of comprehensive liberalism (that verged on illiberal perfectionism) based on a pretty innovative individualist virtue ethics. She coupled this with an appealing (to me) kind of sci-fi prometheanism. This is my Rand take:

It is all so disappointing, because I really believe something like "abundance," or "prometheanism" is an important political mindset. It is future orientation, and *should* be liberatory.

Great takedown of yet another bad attempt to revive modernism, prometheanism, etc that is really just trad reaction with futurist aesthetics. I’m not sure we deserve a better class of promethean, but we need it.
This characterization is going to stick with me. Per @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com’s review, it’s like Brink Lindsey wants a world where radically transformative technologies have changed the world completely but household formation hasn’t changed since the Flintstones (both on a ‘50s model)
