We use OTEL for tracing in most of our services going to a local Tempo instance, we log using svlogd writing to a local logging directory that gets tailed by promtail and shipped to a local Loki instance. Grafana agents on each host get host metrics and scrape local containers to forward to Victoria

おはようございます。promtailはもうなくなってalloyというのに置き換わるんですね。というかgrafana cloudにデータを送り込みやすくするように中継するようなソフトとしてalloyを用意してpromtailの機能も包含したっていうことなのかな。grafana cloudから世の中の各種サービスにつないでいくという流れはありそうなのでそのあたりの整備がすすんでるんでしょうねぇ。grafanaきらいじゃないのでのっかってみるのもおもしろいかもしれん。

Neat #mastoadmin hackery today; I've finally gotten VictoriaLogs and Promtail set up so that I can see all of the logs from wandering.shop in one place.
I switched from Promtail to OTel Collector for application logs and reduced the average CPU usage by 20% (4vCPU VPS). Disk I/O was also reduced from 2.5MB writes to 200kB. 🥳
